Life Fitness are an American based company who’ve been making fitness equipment for many years. Over the years they’ve improved their technology and features of their equipment. This has led to a fantastic range of treadmills and elliptical cross trainers. We feature the X5 elliptical which is an ideal home elliptical. It has all the latest technology Life Fitness have including a lot of what you’ll find in their commercial ellipticals.

Like all the X series of ellipticals they come in a basic console version and an advanced console. The elliptical underneath these consoles is the same. They both have the stride select technology which makes the elliptical suitable for multiple users. You get a total body workout where the upper and lower body is synchonised with each other so each body part gets the same amount of exercise.

The handlebars are designed to make them easier to hold onto and feature heart rate sensors. You can get your heart rate read out on both consoles just like commercial ellipticals and this is wireless on the advanced model. The elliptical also features an accessory tray for a water bottle and there’s a reading rack so you can read your favourite magazines or book as you ride.

Basic Workout Console – The basic console gives you simple options which allows you to get a good workout using the X5 as a base. You’ll be able to lose weight and improve fitness for the whole family. It has a heart rate read out using the heart rate sensors on the handlebars and it comes with 5 workouts. This includes manual where you adjust the settings yourself so you can make your workout as hard or easy as you like.

The other workouts are hill where you’re challenged with multiple hills and valleys with each hill becoming more difficult. There’s the randon program which is a random combination of hills and valleys. There’s EZ incline/resistance which slowly builds the resistance as you ride. Finally there’s the sport training program which simulates an outdoor session and mixes the resistance and inclines as you go.

Advanced Workout Console – The advance console turns the X5 elliptical into a mega exercise machine. It gives you more workouts plus a Polar wireless heart rate chest strap which means you can get your heart rate reading wirelessly and have use of the 5 heart rate workouts that come with the advanced console. There is more and this is including what the basic console provides.

The original 5 workouts found on the basic console are here. Then you get 5 heart rate sync workouts. These are called fat burn, cardio, heart rate hill, heart rate interval and extreme hearty rate. All of these adjust the settings to keep your heart rate beating at a percentage of the maximum. The maximum is found based on your age and other factors. This is an extremely effective way of exercising and will help you achieve your fitness aims in a faster time.

The advanced console also comes with a warm up and cool down facility which is an essential part of any workout and this is provided on top of the program you’ve selected. There are goal workouts where you can choose a target of calories burned, distance or heart rate and you exercise until you reach it. There are 2 custom workouts where you program your own routine and store it for future use.

There is a race mode where you can race against a computerised opponent that appears on the console display. As you can see the advanced console which comes at a small increase in price compared to the basic can make all the difference to the enjoyment and the workouts you get out of the elliptical. Life Fitness are based in America and have been making and selling fitness equipment worldwide for many years. They pride themselves on making equipment that’s both sturdy and feature packed. You can often find some Life Fitness equipment in commercial gyms and health clubs. We feature their home ellipticals of which the X3 is one. It uses similar technology as their commercial ellipticals so you can be sure of a quality piece of equipment.

The Life Fitness X3 elliptical is available in 2 versions. These are the basic workout console and the advanced workout console. More information about the differences are below. Apart from the consoles the elliptical itself is the same. This means they both feature the whisper quiet technology which keeps any noise down while you exercise. Plus a special fluid motion which ensures a natural stride while exercising.

The upper and lower body movement is synchronised to make exercising uniform throughout the body. The effort is spread through your legs and arms so you exert less with greater benefits for the exercise you do. The handlebars feature particular grips to enable you to concentrate ion your workout rather than just holding on. These enable you to get some variety from your workouts than just getting on the machine and adjusting the settings yourself.

The manual program is as it suggests gives you the freedom to choose your own speed and resistance levels. The hill workout challenges you with hills and valleys as you go with each hill becoming more difficult. Random gives you a different workout every time with a different combination of hills and valleys. The resistance program slowly builds your resistance as you ride. Finally the sport training program simulates outdoor training by providing a variety of hills, valleys, low and high resistance.

Advanced Workout Console – The advanced workout console takes the X3 to another level with a wealth of features and a lot more workout programs for you to get your teeth into. It’s only a bit more expensive than the basic and offers far more value that we feel is good for the beginner as well as the experienced cross trainer user. The advanced console has all the features of the basic and more.

The advanced console contains a total of 10 workout programs which is the 5 of the basic plus 5 more. It also comes with a Polar heart rate chest strap and there are workout programs that use this strap to give you more workouts. The extra workouts are fat burn, cardio, heart rate hill, heart rate interval and extreme heart rate. Fat burn gives you a gentle workout designed to burn the most fat by having you exercise at 65% of your maximum heart rate.

The cardio program maximizes calorie burn and heart health by having you exercise at 80% of max heart rate. The hill and interval are similar in that they have you working out at a differing range of heart rate percentages to give you a different challenge. Extreme heart rate has you exercising alternating between 86% and 65% max heart rates. These heart rate workouts are a very effective way of exercising because they’re tailor made for each individual as your maximum heart rate is determined by your age and more.

The advanced console also has goal workouts, custom workouts, quick start, race mode, warm up, cool down and user profiles. As you can see it’s the basic and a whole lot more so if you just want to do basic exercising you can and if you find you need a challenge or are becoming a bit of an expert with your workouts over time then the advanced console is the perfect choice.

They pride themselves on making advanced home equipment and also catering to the fitness clubs with their commercial range. For this reason you can expect a Life Fitness elliptical to last. They use similar technology in all their equipment which keeps the cost down and ensures the build quality is the same high standard throughout.

The Life Fitness X1 elliptical comes in a basic and advanced version and the difference is the console otherwise everything else is the same and we go through the console differences below. They both have the fluid total body motion which means your body moves in a natural way when you exercise. This reduces strain on your muscles and joints and ensures your workout targets the appropriate muscles.

Both versions of the X1 also has a front mounted water bottle holder for ease of use while exercising in case you feel like drink. Even for beginners we would advise going for the advanced console because we believe these features make a big difference to your enjoyment both immediately and when you’ve been exercising for a period of time. You’ll be glad you did.

The advanced console has 10 workout programs which is the basic programs plus 5 more. This includes a heart rate program. The console can read your heart rate using the included heart rate chest strap. This program adjusts the settings of the elliptical to keep your heart rate beating at the optimum rate. This is a very effective way of working out and something that athletes use to ensure their workouts are having the best effect.

The advanced console also has goal workouts where you choose a goal you want to reach and you you’re told on the readout when this has been achieved. You also have the possibility of making 2 user profiles, there are 2 custom workouts and a race mode. The advanced option really is the one to go for but it’s your choice if you want literally the basics and you will just use the manual option then the basic version is for you.
